Question by NFL65: What is the best place to list an ad for a computer repair service?
I recently go in to computer repair, and have been looking for customers in my area. I tried posting an ad on Craigslist and Ebay classified. I did not get a reply for either. Any suggestions?

Keep posting on Craigs. It takes time to get established, Your best source of new businesss will be happy customers who refer you, not 4 line adds in the Thrifty Nickel

December 20th, 2011

Question by : What can I get is freeware, virus free download, fix registry and pc errors, freezing pc, blue screen errors?
I like PC Tuneup 2011, but the two day trial ran out of time.
I would like to get something like that, that fixes errors.
But I want something else if there is something better than
that, that is freeware, not a trial version, and full version download.

Can i get a tech support job with a A+ certification?? I plan to enter a new career!?

December 18th, 2011

Question by Issaic: Can i get a tech support job with a A+ certification?? I plan to enter a new career!?
I really have no computer experience (job wise) but I am college graduate. I have a bachelors in business administration and have been a restaurant manager for the past 6 years. Will an only A+ Certification a resume help land me a position in tech support? This class runs for 8 weeks. Please answer my question if you work in the industry.

Best answer:

Answer by mike s
Sure. The certification could possibly land you a job as a behind-the-desk tech. But be advised most companies, big or small, require real-world experience. So even with a recent certification, it might not be enough.

I recommend just using the built-in one that comes with Pro versions of all windows (if i recall). It’s very good.

I even remember making my own while i was in med school….it was fun to learn C++ and networking. I think it is still up somewhere online with soure code.

I’m running Windows XP and everytime I run Free Window Registry Repair 2.0, my PC automatically restarts! Even Norton 360 registry clean-up can’t start to touch my registry without the computer restarting. Any help is appreciated.

What do you expect to pay per hour for computer repair?

December 10th, 2011

Question by Robert K: What do you expect to pay per hour for computer repair?
I am going to be starting a computer repair business.

I would like some input.

I have been fixing computers for over 10 years now.

I am a certified computer technician and have worked for Hewlett Packard reseller for over 3 years.

I am factory trained to repair majority of printing and computer equipment out today.

I would like to know what people are willing, or are comfortable in paying a good technician per hour.

I will be providing repair, maintenance, and training on software (To some older people in the area).

Is $ 65 to $ 75 per hour OK with majority of people?

Take into consideration I will come out to the house, you do not need to drag any equipment out to any store.

Best answer:

Answer by Chuck
I’m also a computer technician. If I go to a location, I charge roughly $ 65 per hour. If they bring it to me I charge $ 45. If you do a search for computer repair on Yahoo or Google, you will see that people charge in a lot of different ways.

How do I start a out-of-home pc repair service if i am 14?

December 6th, 2011

Question by brandon: How do I start a out-of-home pc repair service if i am 14?
I know more things then our computers class teacher and my parents are splitting up so we are tight on money so i think that this would be a good idea. I have fixed my family’s computers since i was 12 and so far have made $ 500. Do i need to be insured/bonded/ or get a Business license?

Best answer get 10 points!
I live in elko NV and i looked but could not find anything.

Best answer:

Answer by Leslie
This is a great idea. Because you would be working in a service capacity, I recommend setting up a corporation so that you have limited liability – ie if you damage something the business would cover the costs, not you the person. It’s a way to separate you from your business. There is usually a small charge to get a license.

You can find a lot of this information online. I did a quick search for the Elko Library and they have links to the Nevada Small Busines Development organization. Links are below.

If you have more questions – your librarian can provide help and the Nevada Small Business group can help. I bet you could easily find someone with experience that would gladly help you start a real business and show you how to market your services for free.

Good luck!!
