Importance of Storage Warehouses

Storage warehousing is of great importance to the fast developing businesses of today. It helps lessen the expense of companies in having to transport all the goods to different places. Storage warehouses serve as depots for merchandise or other parts for manufacturing companies.

Storage warehouses are basically commercial buildings used in storing goods or merchandise owned by different companies. These warehouses are generally used by companies involved in businesses. These businesses include exporting, importing, manufacturing, wholesaling, transporting, and many other industries that require large storage facilities. Storage buildings are often comprised of very wide areas that are mostly located in industrial zones.

Storage warehouses are equipped with cranes, forklifts, and container trucks which are used in loading and unloading cargos. Some of the modern storage warehouses are set with automated storage systems and would no longer require manpower inside the facility. Those storage warehouses that hold perishable goods are geared up with large refrigerators which keep the products safe and fresh. Most of these warehouses maximize vertical space measuring as high as 20 meters.

Goods and merchandise are stacked in ISO standard pallets and loaded on pallet racks. The pallets containing the products are moved through the use of high-tech automatic conveyors. The automated storage and retrieval machines are linked to a computer run by logistic automation software. Tracking of merchandise in storehouses is monitored through the employment of Warehouse Management System or WMS. WMS is a computer program which stores and retrieves database containing inventories and records of transactions of the warehouse. This computerized system is maintained and watched by logistic personnel.

With the introduction of Just In Time technique or JIT, the use of traditional storage warehouses have declined. JIT offers a much reduced processing of inventories by way of delivering directly the products and commodities to retailers. This is similar with automobile industries wherein the parts are directly delivered to the assembly plants. However, due to the offshore outsourcing, the distance between manufacturers and retailers is of another major concern. This demands at least one warehouse in every country or region of operation in order to cater to the expansion of the business.

The recent development of storage warehouses presents double purpose. Storage warehouses can now be manipulated as retail stores. The traditional high ceilings with decorative shelves are replaced with sturdy industrial racks. These racks encompass ready to sell items placed just below the racks while merchandises which are in pallets are usually stored on top of the shelves. In this way, one building can be used as warehouse and at the same time offers retailing that can save a lot of resources compared to having two separate buildings for each purpose.

Today, many exporters are using storage warehouses as a means to establish retail outlets for a particular region or country. This new system also facilitates in reducing the cost of products for the consumers and relatively increases the production sales. Warehousing is considered a great tool by many manufacturers in directly reaching consumers without the need of middle men or agencies. This saves manufacturers from additional fees, as well.

Storage warehouses are also furnished with many security features such as surveillance camera as well as burglar alarm. Some even employ security guards to secure the whole area of the facility. The majority of the storage warehouses are made up of metal building. All of the building’s parts like beams, frames, walls, and roofs are made from high quality steel. With these materials, the structure is more flexible and can be modified easily in less time compared to warehouses made of wood or concrete.

Many storage warehouses are centrally located in areas adjacent to key destinations and where transportation is accessible. Warehouses owned by big businesses are often large enough to accommodate a good number of consumers in the country of operation. This allows them to easily distribute the goods without having to ship from country to country. Also, the development of the Internet has had a great influence on the system of warehousing. Internet-based stores do not need any physical point of selling but only require storage warehouse to gather all needed goods for the consumers.

Operators of storage warehouses are responsible for protecting all the products that have been deposited in their respective warehouses. The storage warehouse should have insurance, too. Prices of these services may vary depending on the point of location and service provided. Storage warehouses are sometimes leased for a year or longer depending on the clients. Even the most disorganized closet space can be transformed with just a little planning and effort on your part, so you can easily find your clothing or other items. All it takes is a wire closet organizer and following these steps to install them.

First you want to remove everything from the closet space you want to install your wire closet organizer in. First, empty the closet you want to organize, including all the old shelves, rods and doors before bringing in the wire closet organizer. And if you really want to make a change you can use this time to get rid of things you will never use again.

Next, using spackling and a putty knife fill in any dents or old shelving holes left behind. You need to let the spackling dry thoroughly before sanding the space smooth. Then you want to apply a new coat of paint to the entire space. This will really make the wire closet organizer look nice!

Then you want to mark the wall. Mark the wall 2 inches down from the ceiling, you want to make the line level where you intend to place the hanging tracks of the wire closet organizer. Holding the hanging track against the line, mark the wall for drilling.

Hang the tracks. Using the drill marks as your guide, begin to install the hanging tracks of the wire closet organizer. As a general rule, mount the tracks every 24″ or so; however, if they’ll be supporting a lot of weight, space them closer together.

Install the shelves of your new wire closet organizer. Going from the bottom up, choose the space between the floor and the bottom shelf and then continue installing the shelves at intervals appropriate for what you intend to store in the closet.

When the shelves are in place you can then install a hanging rod. You simply install the hanger supports then place the rod.

Try to mount the tracks in a wall stud whenever possible for greater load bearing. If necessary, reinforce the tracks with toggle bolts before mounting your wire closet organizer.

New invention for random storage

Briefly stated, the invention in a preferred form is a retractable net guard system adapted for mounting to a pallet racking. The net guard system comprises a pair of laterally spaced vertically extending tracks. The tracks are mounted to the pallet racking in offset relationship to one side of the pallet racking. The carriers, which in a preferred embodiment, comprise a plurality of rollers traverse along the tracks. The rollers connect with clips which attach to the net. The net is vertically raised or lowered by either a motor mounted apparatus mounted generally above the pallet racking or a manually operated retracting mechanism.

With reference to the drawings, wherein like numerals represent like parts throughout the figures, a pallet rackingdesignated generally by the numeral 10 has been affixed with a retractable rack guard designated by the numeral 12. The rack guard employs a safety net 20 which is extendable in a guard mode (FIG. 2) to substantially cover a front face or side of the pallet racking. The net also upwardly or vertically retracts to provide access to the pallet racking through the front face. The pallet guard system is adapted for mounting to a wide variety of pallet racking. Multiple rack guard systems may be mounted for a given pallet racking installation.

The specific dimensions and number of retractable net guard units required for a given pallet racking system will vary in accordance with the specific dimensional and structural constraints of the pallet racking. In conventional warehousing type configurations, wherein multiple pallet racking are interconnected along an extended aisle, multiple rack guard units 12 will be assembled in side-by-side relationship. The rack guard systems could either be independently operable, i.e., to both retract or extend the safety net as well as to pivot the tracks against the pallet racking, and/or two or more of the units could be ganged, i.e., shafts operatively connected so that the nets would either be raised or lowered in multiple and/or the associated tracks 40,42 pivoted against the pallet racking in cooperative fashion.

Remember When We Used to Make Things?

I remember as a child growing up in the 60′s in the UK we would occasionally be given cheap Japanese and Taiwanese toys. Invariably they were plastic, of poor quality, and frequently withdrawn from the shelves because of concerns about lead paint or the potential harm they could cause an infant.

 

Then of course Japan and Taiwan really got their  acts together and by protectionism and adopting numerous other “unfair” trading practices started to decimate whole sectors of  UK industry – shipping building and the auto industry being two prime examples.

 

This was a prime example of how Britain and other countries tried to play by the rules but got well and truly shafted, and this scenario has been repeated in recent times by China offering anything and everything at a fraction of the price of traditional suppliers.

 

I don’t blame any manager for chasing the cheapest suppliers, but it doesn’t seem that anyone really cares anymore about the bigger picture.

 

Does it really matter that say two thirds of the British economy is now the “service sector”?

 

Does it matter that if you buy a New York souvenir (and frankly this could be most cities) it will have a Made in China label on it. From postcards to T shirts to caps … “Made in China.”

 

Not long ago I  absolutely would have expected the items to have been made in New York – or at least in the USA.  Their Chinese origin puts me off from buying them. Not because I have anything against the Chinese, but purely because the trinket no longer feels like a genuine reminder of New York.

 

So if we allow factories to close and huge swathes of manufacturing to shift overseas what are the risks associated with this?

 

History shows that as manufacturing needs change there is a high human price to be paid.Unemployment, rising social welfare costs ,an increase in ill health for the jobless, disfunctional family life..

 

Once affluent areas can swiftly become impoverished. If they are lucky they can be regenerated with Government grants and incentives – but that takes years and even decades.

 

Of course new manufacturing areas spring to life too, such as Silicon Valley, which can help to mitigate the problems in other sectors and provide huge numbers of jobs and dynamic wealth

 

These days too the switch to mass production of anything and everything can also have devastating results. Salmonella in eggs can hospitalize hundreds of people across a country, where as not so long ago this might have been far less likely as supplies would have far more localized.

 

Look at the baby milk scandal in China and how it impacted across Asia.

 

But let me briefly return to those caps and T shirts and trinkets.

 

I believe that politicians at all levels should display a genuine interest in ensuring that true manufacturing should be preserved and promoted. Each town/region/state/ and country should take measures to ensure that there is a proper and fair balance of local industry.

 

I can’t ever imagine a scenario of buying a souvenir Beijing T shirt and finding a “Made in the USA” label in it. The Chinese would simply never allow this to happen – there would be too much loss of pride at stake. And yet we in the west no longer seem bothered about national pride of this nature.

Yes we like our flags, traditions, and military prowess,  but when it comes to buying anything we usually don’t give a damn who made it as long as it represents good value for money and we like it. And I think that’s a real shame.

Large containers are often crated in such a fashion that standard pallet jacks cannot lift them. Large containers of unique dimensions likewise are difficult to manipulate with even the sturdiest of pallet jacks. Standard hydraulic pumping mechanisms, even if strong enough to lift a heavy load, place too much strain on the human frame to operate safely over long periods of time. Pallet stackers & servers solve this problem by providing a material-handling tool with heavy load capacity, powerful lift, and ergonomic maneuverability. Each of the three major pallet server & stacker lines is designed to be used when a fork truck is not available.

The largest of the three electric pallet stacker server lines, the pallet master stacker, can easily handle pallets, skids, and crates that are built both with and without understructure. For receiving operations that intake supplies from multiple manufacturers-all of whom package products in different way-the pallet master stacker provides an all in one tool that can unload multiple trucks and varying sizes of supplies. The standard unit has a maximum load capacity of 4,000 pounds and 60 inches of raided height, this ergonomic pallet server is a truly versatile tool that excels in a variety of applications. Workers can operate the unit with a fingertip rocker switch control. No manual exertion is required to lift even the largest and most cumbersome of loads. The forks measure 36 inches long to anticipate virtually any size pallet or crate that one might need to move and feature a load center within 18 inches of each fork. This helps to balance and distribute weight to ensure that regardless of load size or build it the pallet server can hold it firmly in place. This electric pallet stacker works very well on a variety of floor surfaces also. Two 8 inches by 2 inches phenolic swivel casters guide the wheels and ensure mobility over occasional spots of debris or rough concrete in older warehouses. Easy Rack can install an optional remote or on-board battery charger by client request. A charge indicator also can be installed in DC units.

For lighter loads, use the smaller version of the pallet stacker master, the Counter-Balanced Pallet Stacker. It is ideal for moving pallets and skids from one workstation to another. The horizontal load center is balanced at 18 inches, and its adjustable forks range from 8 inches to 28 inches in length. This pallet server is provided in three different power options. Choose from 12 Volt DC power, 115 Volt AC power, or Air/Oil power. The Counter-Balanced Pallet Master is very easy to move around on its 8 inches by 3 inches phenolic casters. It is even easier to control. A push button pendant attached to the unit on an 8 foot coil cord allows workers to maneuver the unit either at close distance or while standing back several feet. This feature is especially useful when moving pallets down stacked aisles where it may be too cramped for the employee to physically walk and maneuver the pallet server at the same time.

The Counter-Balanced Pallet Stacker functions just like its name suggests. In addition to being able to move small loads from one place to another without the need of an oversized fork truck, it also allows for workers to access the load from three different sides of the pallet server. In the front, the end is open, and this enables the forks to be next to the workstation for easy loading and unloading. The unit includes a standard 12 Volt DC power lift with an on-board charger, and it includes a counterbalance as well. Push buttons on the power unit make it easy for workers to raise and lower the lift. Easy Rack can also provide an optional hand control on coil cord if requested. The Counter-Balanced Pallet Stacker also features superior security by means of a key operated ON/OFF control built into the power unit.
