I’m running Windows XP and everytime I run Free Window Registry Repair 2.0, my PC automatically restarts! Even Norton 360 registry clean-up can’t start to touch my registry without the computer restarting. Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure, but this program may not be safe. Unistall it then run this program instead, much better too.

Question by Mr. Mysterious: Can turning off computer during Startup Repair harm your PC?
My Startup Repair seems to be going slowly and I want to try something else. Can turning my PC off during Startup Repair damage the PC in any way?
Best answer:
Answer by ServerTech2011
Nope not gonna damage it in any way if you have never done before. BUT, excessive shut down by cutting out the power CAN and MAY cause hard drive damage. So if its the first time, don’t worry. Nothing would happen to it.
Hint for the startup problem : I am going to suggest to try ‘Start Windows with Last Successful settings’ rather than startup repair. Startup repair has never been any good to me.

Download the trial version of TuneUp Utilities, it’s good for thirty days which is more than enough, since most of the tweaks or fixes will be onetime things.

Question by Daniel Y: Software and programs used by PC repair technicians?
What are some of the programs used by computer shops to fix and repair PCs from crashes, viruses, etc.. and where can I get them? thanks in advance. 10 points for best answer!

Answer by nedlinin
The two biggest free software used today would probably be MalwareBytes and AVG.
However, I would highly recommend adding the following to your arsenal:
CCleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware, ComboFix, LSPFix.
Knowing how to properly use all of these utilities is a must.
Each can be found as the first result in google when searching for the name.

Question by Veronica2513: What can I do to repair a PC disk? I did a scan through my virus software that stated at the end of the scan?
there were errors on the disk and to check NTFS. Contacted Norton but weren’t able to assist with the problem. I’d like to see if I could do something on my own before opting to take it for repair. Upon turning on my PC on the screen it says: check file system C. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. Type of file system is NTFS. Can anyone tell me what I can do to make the repair myself?
The information I’m looking for is to be used for Windows: Vista.

You may not need a repair disk or restore disk depending what type of computer you have. You can easily do a repair install of Windows assuming you are running Windows XP. If you have the Windows CD then insert it into the CD/DVD drive and follow the instructions here —-> http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Take your time and read carefully and you won’t have a problem.
Try this link for Windows Vista —> http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91467-startup-repair.html

Question by Scott S: Does anyone know a good place to get PC repair certification online?
I would like to start working on computers in my small community but it is hard to compete with someone who has a certificate saying they can repair PC’s when I do not. I don’t need much training, i have done a lot of research myself and I am self-taught on computer hardware, troobleshooting, etc. I’m still in high school so whatever I do it would have to be online or local (North Texas). I need somewhere that I can take a test or short coarse to get a certificate for PC repair in short.
Thx for any ideas/help.

I’m taking a CompTIA A+ and Net+ class using material from www.totalseminars.com. You can get the book from Amazon a lot cheaper though. I just took the first part of the certification test and I passed with flying colors. There are also a lot of study guides out there for the CompTIA tests as well as others. I’ve found www.proprofs.com the most helpful.

Question by John: Thinking of starting up a PC repair business?
I’m thinking of starting up a PC repair business. I’m always the first port of call when it comes to repairing PCs in my family and I was thinking, why not turn it into a business and get paid for doing what I enjoy?
My main concern is competition though, there are alot of small businesses in the area who do the same sort of thing and I was wondering whether its worth doing?
Also, if I was to go though with it, are there any tips you can offer me?

There is plenty of market share for your service that you shouldn’t fear the competition… you should make it so that they fear you. There’s no reason not to start out the business part-time to see how lucrative it is. You don’t need a shop … you can work from home. You will get some awesome tax credits for your own business. You can write off alot of your expenses too. You also won’t need a ton of money but should budget some for advertising to get the word out. Check out vistaprint.com for some inexpensive postcards. Try getting some business from local small businesses that won’t have a staff IT person and also make yourself accessible to their employees for home computers as well. Write some articles on PC topics and sign off the bottom with your contact information. Consider a website and market the heck out of it. Have faith and confidence in yourself. With your own business you will earn 100% of the profits after taxes and expenses are paid. Can you think of any employer that will pay you that? You’ll have freedom. But, again, start small and think big!!!

Question by cornbread: Are there any sites you can go to for absolutely free pc scan AND repair downloads?
I am tired (and strapped for cash) of sites that say they scan and repair pc problems. Somewhere down the line you have to pay, even when using a so called trial version. What ever happened to try before you buy? There’s got to be a site out there that sells the software because it provides you with an oppurtunity to try it’s product for free for a few days. Or better yet…forever!

Answer by Joshua M
I’m not sure what the specific problem you are having is but if you think you are having a virus issue please check out AdAware. It is really powerful, and the trial version is free.
